Ivory, Olive, and All the Feeling
At 173 Carlyle House, Dan and Shannel’s wedding brought graceful silhouettes, a garden setting, and the people closest to them into the same frame.

Before the ceremony, there is a portrait that says almost everything. Shannel sits beside an upholstered chair, her veil falling over one shoulder. Dan leans down toward her forehead. Behind them, the room opens out in a mirror; in front of the camera, the moment narrows to two people.
That balance runs through their wedding photographs: a sense of occasion, and the small, affectionate gestures that make the occasion theirs. At 173 Carlyle House in historic Norcross, near Atlanta, the setting offered white architecture, a leafy outdoor ceremony space, and a house with a welcoming front porch. The photographs move between those spaces with the couple at their center.
A palette that belonged in the garden
Shannel’s gown paired a fitted, delicately detailed bodice with thin straps and a full, sweeping skirt. Her long veil softened the silhouette without obscuring it. Dan’s pale suit brought a tonal counterpart, sharpened by a black bow tie and dark shoes.
Around them, olive green and deep brown dresses sat naturally against the foliage. Small white bouquets kept the color story restrained. The result was a visual rhythm of ivory, green, and warm earth tones, with the ceremony’s white columns and floral arch giving the portraits a quiet structure.
The story just beyond the aisle
The wider frames establish the setting. The closer ones give it life. A glance across the aisle. A child meeting Dan at the front of the ceremony. Guests watching, smiling, and turning toward one another. Those moments sit beside the formal portraits because they belong to the same story.
Shannel’s arrival is captured from several distances: first against the house, then closer, with her skirt moving over the terrace. A black-and-white frame lets the shape of the dress and the expressions take the lead. Back in color, the garden supplies its own backdrop.
The photographs hold the ceremony—and the life happening around it.
And then, the release
Under the arch, the photographs turn to hands, faces, and the space between the couple. The first kiss is followed by a different kind of energy: smiles opening up, hands held, the movement back down the aisle. In one frame, Dan dips Shannel for another kiss while guests look on.
It is an ending that feels less like a final pose than the beginning of the celebration. That is what I wanted this edit to hold: the care in the portraits, the movement of the ceremony, and the warmth that keeps appearing at the edges. Dan and Shannel, together, with their people close.
